Due to extreme fire danger and poor air quality readings in San Lorenzo Valley this year, four new free yard waste drop-off days have been added.
Residents of the San Lorenzo Valley will be able to dispose of yard waste at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station on February 14, 15, 21 and 22. The offer is available for residents who have zip codes of 95005, 95006, 95007, 95018 and 95041.
In a normal rain year, there would have been a number of permissive backyard burn days by this time. However, the combination of the lack of rain, the fire danger, and poor air quality readings resulted in only a few permissive burn days so far this year.
The Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District sponsored the additional drop-off days in response to a request by Fifth District Supervisor Bruce McPherson.
In addition to the four added drop off dates in February, there will be free drop off days on April 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26.
The free drop-offs exclude commercial and business materials, drop boxes and dump trucks. Refuse, dirt, lumber, poison oak, and root balls are also prohibited.
